We were out of ketchup and couldn't get to the store to get some. So more out of curiosity I used YouTube to find a simple recipe.
I thought I would never post a recipe on our family blog, but this was a lifesaver, sort of.
I doubled the recipe due to my access to the last 12oz. can of tomato paste.
From croutoncrackerjacks
1 (12oz.) can tomato paste
1 cup boiled water
1 Tbs onion powder
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
2 pinches clove
2 pinches allspice
6 Tbs white vinegar
Boil water and then add onion powder and set aside for 30 mins.
The time is important, for some reason the powder added straight to the tomato paste makes it jell.
Then add to tomato paste, add all spices and mix well. Then add white vinegar and cover. Place in fridge overnight for spices to marinate. No cooking involved (it takes 2 minutes to boil the water in the microwave), cost about $.50 compared to $4-8 organic at the store, and corn syrup free!
Success!

I loved the ketchup, but the rest of the family were reserved about it. It lasted two meals then I mixed it with minced garlic and left over spaghetti sauce to put in lasagna.
