Our Garden(S)

We started planting a garden at the end of February. Starting with one 3x3 foot square box with a lone lettace.

The lettace promptly died because I planted it incorrectly. The next week we started more to make up for the loss. From top to bottom, left to right: Strawberries (you can't see them, but they are there), broccoli, split peas, green beans, tomatoes, carrots, and peppers.
Everything looked to crowded that I was afraid the tomatoes would be over run by the peas, so in March we added a second 3x3 square foot plot, just to the right of the first view. Allen also bought me a tomato plant that was more developed, just in case the seedlings d0n't make it in the first square. From top to bottom, right to left. Watermelon (I still wonder if it will ever get any bigger), green beans (they grow so fast), tomato, and broccoli from the first square.

I also decided to take a chance on some over grown potatoes, so we placed them at the bottom of the yard in the "flood zone" (I heard they need lots of water), next to my iris, from my mother's yard.
Here is a small harvest from the gardens: potatoes (before the bugs ate the plants) and green beans. We had 3x's as many slit peas before the aphids got the plants and the plants had to be removed from the garden. That gave the tomatoes room to grow and we have enjoyed half a dozen nice sized tomatoes. The broccoli has lots of bottom leaves, but no crowns.
We are so thankful for the spring rains that helped our gardens get started. I would tell the kids, "God is watering our garden today!" The Lord knew that we needed this garden before we did. I love it when Eva says, "Can we have salad tonight!" or "More peas, beans, and tomatoes please!"
