Valentine's Day 2008

Happy Valentine's Day from the Shutt Family

We are very Happy at the Shutt house today. All of us are well for the moment. Eva and I had a few days of severly high fevers and only wanting to sleep. Evan didn't understand, but was forced to take extra long naps, and when anyone asked "What did you do today" Eva replies, "We Slept". We had to get a picture of the day, since we all wore our red shirts. In past years Allen usually suprises me when he brings home flowers after work, but the last two years I had the car, so no flowers, but we have rose bushes out front of our house and Allen said, "When they are in bloom you can have all the flowers." There will probably be more then a dozen, if I can keep them alive until summer.

Today We took Allen to work, then at 9am Eva had a Valentine's Party with her friends from Pre-School. We arranged with a local nursing home to deliver valentines to the residence. Tuesday they made cards with a poem on the front and painted their hand print on the back.
The poem goes think this:

This isn't just any handprint as you can plainly see.

For it is a special handprint
Made by Me!
Along with this handprint
I send lots of hugs and kisses your way.
And ask that God bless you
On this
Valentines Day!

Evan stayed with the younger kids, and Eva went with her friends Maggie, McKenna, and Brody to deliver valentines. There were suppose to be three more friends, but they got sick this week too. Eva and Maggie were shy at first not knowing how to approach a sleeping Grandma or Grandpa, but soon Eva got the hang of handing the cards out from a distance and smiling when she would actually get a response. We then went back to Maggie's house to exchange valentines with each other and for snack heart shaped sugar cookies of course with apple juice. Eva has not gotten to play with Maggie in a while so we stayed for lunch. Then home for an afternoon nap, even though we are well I am going to try to keep nap-time as long as possible.

Allen had brought deer steak home from work earlier in the week, and put it in the fridge Tuesday to thaw. With me being sick most of the week, Allen said "If we didn't have a good meal Tonight with left overs I am going out to eat on Friday. A co-worker called the deer meat Chicken Fried Steak." I don't think of myself as a very good cook, but it was very straight forward what Allen wanted for dinner. So after my nap I got out the Better Homes and Garden cookbook and looked up Chicken Fried Steak. I knew I would be over-whelmed if I read the whole recipe through before starting, so I just started reading and preparing at the same time. Long story short. I didn't have time to start cooking until after I got Allen from work, so we had a salad for appitizer, Eva helped me make it we added egg, bacon bits, cheese, and French dressing to our lettuce. She said, "We are making food." One hour later the the Steak was done, and Allen said, "You did a good job cooking dinner." The best words next to "I Love You!"

I love this picture of Eva and Evan hugging. Eva's face is precious. And I love that you handed out valentine's at the nursing home. I'll have to remember that one. I love you.
